Flight KIEV – FRANKFURT – MIAMI

I arrived to Kiev late in the evening day before flight (departure was early in the morning from Boryspil) and felt how wild and undeveloped is our country. Maybe, I’m not right, but getting from subway station Lesnaya to airport took about 2 hours, and only about 15 minutes of it had took trip to Boryspil itself. Other one hour and half I was looking for route taxi. I have been asked a lot of people, but nobody could give an exact answer, according to one’s policeman’s advise I arrived to subway station Chernigivska and found taxi driver there under the bridge, who for $5 with imperceptible on that good condition road 100 mph delivered me there.

In airport, obviously like usually, was chaos. Despite on late evening, there weren’t any free sitting places. Plenty people scurried about and 2 guards in adolescence without intelligence on faces lazily gazed what’s going around. But I was lucky, and after several circles around found enough comfortable places for myself, where after couple of hamburgers I fell sleep, using my suitcase as a pillow.

Alarm – clock woke me up exactly in time of boarding. Everything passed fast and after glance onto Kiev’s duty-free shops, in which, like in other shops of this kind, extra charge was larger than any tax, I sat into the plane.

Flight passed faster then scheduled time in about 15 minutes (it’s really possible with Lufthanza), and we landed in giant and strict ant hill of Fraport – Germans call largest European airport this name. It’s hard to imagine larger amount of mechanics on such a large area. Airplanes of all sizes, lifting cranes, loaders, buses, gangways and much other machinery were doing its never-ending job.

Transport communications of Frankfurt airport

Long time bus carried us among concrete corridors and delivered to building which consisted of not less long lobbies. It took about 20 minutes to get to mine terminal – it’s about one and half of kilometer, but moving was accelerated with horizontal transporters. Main feature of this airport inside is strictness of decorating and classical metal colors.

There was a bar in terminal of my flight. Following habit, I ordered a cup of coffee. Then I remembered that I don’t have Euro, but nice bartender declared that she is ready to take US dollars. It was just $18 – very good for morning charge of vivacity.

Spring Germany was looking gloriously. In the rays of morning sun local rivers and ponds shined with gold on the background of green forest, arterial – roads reminded web with threads – highways. It was impossible to stop looking into the window while Boeing was gaining altitude.

Somewhy pilot headed to the North – West instead of the South – West. Somewhere in 10 kilometers Great Britain and Ireland run by. Then sky covered with clouds, ocean was underneath so it was not interesting to look out of the window.

Atlantic Ocean from the altitude of 10 kilometers

Looking after the map, I understood that we almost reach Greenland, but no, pilot accidentally turned to the south. Clouds got thin, and seacoast became visible. And until Miami you could see rocky, covered with forest, banks, blue sea, great number of twisting rivers, flowing into it, and only somewhere lonely sails of ships turned white. A narrow white edging was added closer to Florida – beach.

Miami impressed with big amount of bridges, proper planning of the streets and unreality of its area. One-floor houses predominated, plenty of ponds were visible and in one of them I even mentioned fountain.

Landing was normal, customs also, and while I was waiting for my St. Petersburg colleague, it was devil’s work; I took picture of him in front of checkpoint. Flash wasn’t turned off, although I checked if somebody is watching. Reflection of shooting was seen by one Mexican-looking officer, pushed me delete picture and come back to other waiting crewmembers. He threatened to confiscate the camera, made pedagogical conversation and let me go soon. I played fool that I don’t understand prohibition of taking pictures of such strategic objects, although it was not like this. It was simply very interesting to run risk.

Than I got my luggage (by the way, nobody look after its issuing, take any bags you need, how many you able to carry) and got to my hotel by the free shuttle-bus.
