Nassau – contrast capital of gourgeous Bahamas
Now I’d like to tell you about my 1-hour trip around capital of stunning Bahamas. Passing by the ship’s gangway I was warned about expected rain, air was cool. After I got outside, I understood that I’m in the place of contrasts. Just by the pier there was a bar with funny for Ukrainian name “Kalik”, named same as most famous beer of Bahamas. Behind port building, around which, like around stronghold, nested Bahamian navy boats. I entered I world of Afro-American people, which was and will be diffirent from world of white human beings.

Sea – front street reminded market , which was boozing like hive with thousand voises . It seemed everyone was talking here. Every attractive and not attractive mug had her own business – skinny herald persistently invited to have a trip on the boat , and fat grey-haired master of jewelry store ceremoniously walked about by the shopwindow . All of them were concentrated to the limit – our liner still remained on road.
Berth
Designed 40-minute rectangle with city’s streets I succeded to feel it’s main point. Buildings seemed old, but not tumblevdown . I would refer them to the boundary of 19 th and 20 th century. There were plenty monuments around, which seemed very flavorous with numerous palms and bushes. All together reminded about past greatness and might of colonial center.
About high point of present election in neighboring USA expressivly reminded poster “Bahama for Obama” . Streets around the port were looking dirty , and I didn’t had any desire to turn into smaller deaf dark alleys .

Only very center looked worthy of respect, plentiful policemen weared into funny white uniform of soldiers of century before last. One of central in city’s ensemble was high and sharp , like bayonet , monument for memory of dead during war actions of First World war ( frankly, I have no idea what happened here ). Memorial marble plaque said “In grateful memory of the sons of this colony who made the Supreme Sacrifice in the Great war 1914 – 1918. Bahamians: let this of you be said, that you who live are worthy of your dead. These gave there lives that you who live, may reap a richer harvest, ere you fall asleep.”

It would be cynical to make here connection between this message to offsprings and real foreign – economic function of Bahamas nowadays. In one of the newspapers I saw a title about catch of huge amount of drugs and ad litteram young man persistently offered “Smoke-smoke ? ”

Also I remembered such a moment . There was a commercial poster of one of the shops , passing by Afro – American kid with heat threw it down in the presence of mother . Mother turned back, and took him forward, didn’t care at all about harm made by her child. But if consider people’s interest to this publicity , arised by its fall really hardly to name it as a harm .
Except palms there were a lot of other trees grew in the streets , some of them were decorated with lights .
A lot of flowers were gladden eyes and I remembered a nice fountain with thin streams spurting – I felt a lack of water on islands . Passing by the market heading to magnificent harbor of Nassau , I felt that air becomes more fresh – coolness was coming down together with first raindrops. Heavy loaded container vessel slowly passed across gulf. Two buildings of Atlantis standed magnificently far away.

General comment regarding capital of Bahamas – this place deserve attention, without any doubts, but not the best for long careless rest. Half of day, which vessel stays in port – is exactly enough.
